RXF 36 Coil 29/27.5+ Boost – 2017

Expanding the capabilities of the modern trail bike even further, the Ohlins RXF 36 Coil is here. Using a coil spring instead of air means fewer seals resulting in less friction in the fork. A fork that uses it’s travel more smoothly creates more traction and stability, making this fork ideal for big descents and aggressive riding.

TTX (twin tube) damper technology, also found in Ohlins’ TTX 22M rear shock, enables parallel and separated oil flow to ensure optimal pressure at all times. Controlling the pressure levels ensures initial smoothness and allows the fork to stay high in travel with maintained bump absorption, traction and stability.

The RXF 36 Coil sports 36mm stanchions and a wider overall stance to support Boost hubs, as well as 29″ and 27.5″+ tires. Unlike is brother, the RXF 36 Air, this fork is internally adjustable to a range of travel options from 160mm down to 120mm in 10mm increments with no change in spring preload (travel adjusting the RXF 36 Coil does require a special spanner tool and it is recommended to be performed by a bike shop or service center). 7 different coil rates ensure you always have the correct spring rate, and a pre-load adjuster controls the initial smoothness. Low and high speed compression are externally adjustable, as well as low speed rebound.

Given the tune-ability of the RXF 36 Coil, and it’s tendency to ride high in the travel while climbing, Ohlins did not see the need to add a lockout feature to this fork. If you find it to be too squishy for your liking on the climbs, you can quickly increase your low speed compression, which will provide a stiffer platform for climbing.
